After wanting to see Factory Girl forever, I finally found in OnDemand and viewed it last night.

I honestly feel in love with Sienna Miller. I think she was devastatingly fabulous in this movie. I really felt like she could have been Edie. Yet, I feel like she always play these desperate for attention characters, i.e. her character in Alfie, with Jude Law. Can we say "character actor".

But I really did feel something for the Edie character and in a way I aspire to be something like her. I loved her flouty attitude and how she can just survive out in a social atmosphere. Not so much on her own in outside society though. She is just one of those girls who people flock to, her personality is so drawing.

Also, the Andy Warhol character is very intriguing. We all know people who give us a taste of this attitude that you are disposable, which most of the time is never true. He is shacked up in a place called the Factory, where its is either home to his outlandish friends while he creates his art (film, paintings, etc) by day, and lavish, outrageous parties at night. When watching him, he is somewhat of a monster and yet he is endearing to watch, having to look away at points. You can tell he has a side to him that connects to his family the same way Edie's does, but it is deep inside and only exposed to very few. We hear a lot about Minty, Edie's past brother, who was also exposed to the foul treatment growing up which led to his suicide. I dont feel like Edie looks to her family in the same way Andy does. She finds them distasteful and yet they are surrounded by the money Edie longs for.

Reviews of the film were less than impressed. People found this movie to literally of a tragic life once lived. But what did they expect. This is of a woman who flailed around for 28 years and then fell off the wagon. End of [tragic] story. All in all I liked it.

A Cute Boot

My purchase for the fall is going to be a pair of really nice leather boots, flat heel, to the knee, equestrian look. So I have been looking and this is what I have come up with. I actually had a dream last night about finding a pair on vintage Christian Louboutin boots. Then they turned into cowboy boots. I think I considered this a nightmare.

Personally, I wasn't old enough to really appreciate the mix tape when it was in full force. I never got to experience a boy making me a "mix tape", maybe a "mix CD" but that was never the same. I never got to go cruising and take a journey through what each song meant as I passed by unknown places.

My only memories of the mix tape where sitting in front of my boombox (remember the boombox, oh memories) and waiting for the Z100 top songs of the day to play my favorite songs, aka Total Eclipse of the Heart. You would either get some of the DJ's voice overlapping the intro beat or cut it off entirely because you misjudged a bathroom break. Either way, I was able to capture these songs and have my beloved dance parties while I procrastinated doing my homework. My most vivid memory was being spied on by my babysitter dancing to Gangster's Paradise by Coolio.

So here's to the memory of mix tapes. You have become GenX's 8- Track player.

Good Eats

I've been going nuts making my own map, on Google Maps of course, of places I need to go eat at. Not that food is so important to me but I think that being able to have the cultural experience that restaurants have to give is very worthwhile. I recently accompanied a friend and her father (always a good choice to get a nice range of dishes which you most likely wont have to pay for) to a restaurant down by my old stopping grounds, Webster Hall. It is called LAN and it has some of the most mouth watering food I have ever tasted. It serves very modest priced Japanese that deserves $$$$ on city search. Most memorable dish: tofu from the appetizers menu and no one really would order tofu but thanks to my new diet I thought I would go for it. It turned out so amazing, with truffles and truffle oil. Just melted in my mouth.

Another place I found myself this past weekend before I saw James Morrison at the Filmore (and oh my God is he adorable) was the restaurant Cuba...not Asia de Cuba. Their Mojitos are so taste, they just go right down. This became evident as my 16 sister and I observed two girls obviously there for Happy Hour and proved how easy these drinks are to handle. Lets just say their personal conversation did not stay personal. And neither did their Mojito-Goggled attraction for a man who looked like a compulsive-smoking-Danny Bonaduce- look-alike.

Next stop, I will somehow get myself into Ye Wavlery Inn, which is famous for its celeb spotting and notoriously difficult to score a table. I will find a way though.

In my new found interest in the already infamous Icons.com, I have stumbled over so many new photographers that are so incredible, I could make a blog totally dedicated to them. But in my attempts to be more broad sighted, I will only mention one.

Jamie Nelson. So fabulous and only based out of Colorado (which I have recently visited and found it so incredible but not really a fashion influence, enter stage left: cowboys). I managed to pick some of her many different looks, which was so difficult to narrow down. Then I wen to her sight, thank God it is Flash Player or I would have gone bananas.

Sometimes you just love your shoes this much.

The New York Times has an article that has introduced the new Vuitton model, who just so happens to be the last President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail S. Gorbachev. Annie Leibowitz has photographed the ad and had placed Mr. Gorbachev in what looks to be a stylish, old limo of sorts. He then has by his side a large signature Speedy bag. To me, this doesn't really impose the need to run out and have the bad that he has, which in my opinion is what ads are for, but it does reverberate a sense of tradition and importance. I mean this IS the ex-President of Russia.

Road to the House

We are pleased to announce that Zac Posen is now starting to plan a fragrance to add to his line. He says that this is not just a one time thing. He "sees fragrance as a major pillar in his plan to build a luxury house," says WWD. I would love to see the Posen label become huge. I mean not Chanel, Doir or Versace huge but huge none the less.

He wants to focus on using fragrances for different areas and having it become an easy shift from day to night. He mentions being able to use fragrance in you hair with the oil build-up. Not to say I wouldn't love to have the wind blowing through my Zac Posen doused locks but this idea isn't exactly innovative, i.e. the new Tom Ford Black Orchid scent for hair. On that note, I did splurge on the Tom Ford fragrance when it came out and ended up unfortunately displeased. I sprayed myself once, at the suggestion of the salesgirl who said it was a very overwhelming scent. I didn't even want to leave the house it was so overpowering. Luckily, I had done the trial run with the testers I had gotten.

Otherwise, we look forward to seeing what Mr. Posen has to bring

Both Kate and Andy Spade will their their executive posts on their label Kate Spade. Reason? To spend more time with their kids. In my opinion, a noble reason to leave of course we are still sad to see them leave. I guess we'll have to wait and see what Liz Claiborne label will come up with now.

In July's issue of Vogue, Anna Wintour has played a fun little trick on renowned photographer Irving Penn. She had him photograph editorials, including a shoot of Cate Blanchett, in order to have on "unpublished work" at hand. Little to his surprise, she has dedicated an entire 9 pages to that work. The one of Blanchett is by far my favorite. I am totally infatuated with old royalty. Marie Antoinette. Those costumes. I couldn't take my eyes off.

I really love this whole idea, although majorly overpriced. I think they could make a whole lot more money with this campaign if the prices were lowered. I would buy something like this for charity, but not a gold charm on some colored cord.

But I do think the entire idea is great. I love that the different colors represent different organizations. If I had a disposable income, i would buy each one to match my outfits. until then, i'll just go to the art store and make a faux-statement.

So I fell upon James Leonard Opticians a complimentary eye test when you go to their sale. Glasses by Dior, YSL, La Font, Gucci, etc are going for as low as $75. This past weekend the high luxury boutique opened their second location in New York. Located on Wall Street, 15th and Broad to be precise, was celebrated by guests at the Cunard Building. Wall Street you ask? So did I but after reading Stylist.com's take on the event, it was made clear that after the events of September 11th, certainly a date New Yorkers and Americans will never forget, Wall Street has been kept to the limits of Finance and of course our beloved Century 21. Now, after a devastation, no matter how big or small, come restructure and rebirth. With an ode to tradition, placing such an old name such as Hermes in a place that needs some familiarity was aperfect choice. This store will bring people back downtown, not in hearbreak but in lust.

I was just reading some old Society Girl posts on The Vintage Society. In the lastest entry, they chose Ashley Olsen as Society Girl as the week and I could not agree more. She is most definitely fabulous and has become an icon of our time. But what really caught my eye are those frames she is wearing. They are incredible. She just looks so smart and chic in them. How can I get them?

I have brushed off the dust from my pearl earrings and have been pretending my name is Muffy and I live on the upper east side the past couple of days. I cannot wait for Emmy Rossum's album to come out. I wasn't a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera and although I grew up in New York, I never saw it on Broadway, but if that girl can belt it like she did in that movie then I can't wait to she what she can do on an LP (that's me trying to sound like im way into producing music). Other than her voice she is SO adorable. Everytime I see her on the red carpet she is just enchanting. How about her at the M.A.C Cosmetics Viva Glam VI Dinner in September. That Zac Posen dress...to die for.

Anyway, we'll have to see how this album come out.

Gustto is Heavenly

Last Thursday, also known as payday, I ran right after work to the sample sale hosted by Clothingline to pick up my beautiful new Gustto bag. Thinking it will run at around $300 (which is insane in itself!), I arrive to find that there are bags, $700 bags, going for $99! Now, most of you, like myself would say, "I dont even want to hear why they cost this much", but i'll tell you anyway. They were "irregular". I kid you not, there is a worn in patch on the inside of the bag AND THATS IT! It is my new baby. Ill introduce you.

So here is my first blog entry. I have had a few blogs in the fast, mainly one tracking my media usage in one of my classes last year. Let's just say the entry's were minimal. But being recently employed in New York City at an entry level job, I have found myself stalking every fashion blog on the net. Not to mention the fact that I cant seem to save a penny due to my constant purchases of every fashion mag on the rack. It's pathetic. The day I see the new Jane or Nylon mag have come out, I have a mini fiesta in my head and start smiling and running through Grand Central Station. So, I have no decided that no longer will blogging be a homework assignment burdening my Friday night, but a hobby/joy/excitement for me. This will be a long and beautiful friendship.
